I think I got it.
Everyone is going to gather around Catherby, Ardy and the Grand Exchange at the same time in anticipation of this revelation and get >5 fps, which is the future of Runescape.

^ Turns out I wasn't far off.
I'm standing around in Catherby minding my own business and suddenly this invisible guy opens up a black hole and starts swallowing the universe whole right in the middle of the freaking beach.

Lucky for me my fps was so low, or I might have been sucked in. So I go to Ardy instead, and it's pretty uneventful except everyone is gathered around this big ice cream cone that fell from the sky.

After returning the ice cream to its original owner, he thanks me and gives me a lift to the grand exchange, where he spends the rest of eternity singing my praises, and everyone gathers around to hear about how great I am.

and even such an obvious hint to the extent the examine text of the rift contained the word "RuneSpan" lol.. I don't see why it was even necessary when they'd just done a whole dev blog on it L
