As far as I know, don't new players end up far away from Lumbridge in EOC now? Isn't it more like the Burthorpe/Falador area?

That is entirely correct, they indeed start in Burthrope. It's just that new accounts and Lumbridge are forged together in my mind.
I'm pretty sure I never made an account that started in Burthrope either.
