Seems like a pretty good update to me, definitely changes the firemaking skill a lot.
Also, cooking will probably be trained on bonfires now.
I wonder if this is better than Jadinko Lair? If it is, will definitely be training with this method. If not, well I will probably use it for competitions since BA Horn and other bonus items work with this.
