You could, you should have merged your names every time you changed it though.
That is what I did, I changed my name probably 4-5 times this year but I merged them each time :x

As for my experience gains, I use this topic on the RSOF were we guess our gains for the next year, here was my prediction:

Current exp: 226,504,269
Predicted exp: 253,000,000
I was really really low in my prediction. I have to say by passing my prediction that much I am pretty happy with my gains.
