Anyway, I doubt very much that anyone who gets caught buying unsanctioned gold gets away with it, as it's just as much a violation of the rules as selling gold. The real issue is whether anyone ever gets caught, but finding a seller should lead to numerous buyers so this news is a step in the right direction on both fronts.
They don't really explain here what happens to the buyers. Personally, if they think that a lighter punishment will get the job done for a first time offender, then that doens't bother me. The kingpins have been permanently banned, but I don't think they'll stop unless Jagex takes it a step further by bringing legal action against these people.
