Bot-Nuking Day: Making RuneScape Fairer and More Fun!

114 was always high risk I thought. I remember it being brought up when the new homeworld discussion was happening but it was said that skillers generally don't go into the wilderness much anyways and you can hop easily if needed.

Excited to see how this affects the game! Also epic picture.

Got 89 slayer courtesy of the incredible triple slayer reward.

I figured my 1.5 hours or so of triple xp made up for the waiting for slayer targets to be available, free of bots.

This update packed a punch, I must say. Now that I've actually been able to log in and see the effects myself, I can safely rate this a 5. The graphical updates, new reporting features, and bot-free areas are all so amazing; I just went to w77 and w84 LRC and there was NO lag! It was pretty amazing, haha.

Even though people seem to be pessimistic about this whole thing (for example, bots coming back slowly over time) I'll still have some faith that Jagex can keep them out. This update still gets a 5 regardless of what happens, because they're at least attempting to fix the issue instead of ignoring it completely. Here's to a bot-free RS!

So far, so good. I'll reserve complete judgement, but basically everything I've been reading about the effects of this update indicate it's done its job well. The idea behind ClusterFlutterer, the new anti-bot system, is apparently that they take all the item IDs and such, and chuck them all into one massive, randomized(fluttered) array that only the JaGex engine can decipher. When you look at it that way, the name makes a lot of sense, actually.

Here's a post taken from Tip.it (which was posted there after being taken from a botting website) of two guys who seemingly know what they're talking about, saying that basically JaGex actually got it right this time.

every object in game is an index in the array rite like every part of game engine the array is just an Object[][] meaning you can't tell what type is in what index and my guess is that everytime you connect all indices are scrambled resulting in something even harder than making a packet bot

Hopefully it holds up, the way it sounds, this array system is nearly impossible to code for due to the randomization. I've got my optimism hat on now.
