2007 - Old School RuneScape... You Vote!

Wow surprised at the amount of no votes from the clan. Shok

Personally I am hugely excited for this!! I think it is an awesome idea, and I have dreamed of something like this for years ever since I used to read G&A archives of my favourite topics.

I pretty much have the exact same thoughts as Justin about this. I just quoted him and took out the stuff that didn't apply haha.

-I'll play for a while and see which is more fun before dropping one I guess
-I'll be interested to see whether you can play both simultaneously or not, if so then 200M wc on ivyscape here we come!

I started playing a couple months after when this new RS (or rather old RS) would take place, so thats pretty cool. I am well aware at many of the annoying things about it, but honestly I played classic for awhile and loved it. There are a few reasons I don't play it more though. There are no highscores but this will have them. There isn't much of a community there (most of the people are great but its just not the same), but with this there would be a bigger community (it doesn't have to be that big to please me, just enough) and I would likely have friends playing too. Finally there is really no AFK at all in Classic, and I am all for intensive training but it is nice to have the occasional method that you can relax on. This 2007 scape seems great for me!

I can't believe I am actually contemplating leaving Runescape. I will just take it slow and make a decision when the time comes (assuming of course it hits the right amount of votes. I do think 500K will at least be hit). I do think it is cool that everyone will start from strach, sure I will easily fall behind the no lifers but it will be much more close than now. Since I started this game so late compared to most people, I have always been behind. Now the tables are even!

Also @Gohankuten@ to me it makes perfect sense not to have a no vote. It doesn't matter how many no votes there are, if they hit the required amount they will have enough support for the game. They have stated it won't take away anything from the current game and a new team will be hired for it. The people playing it will pay for it, so its not a waste of anything. This is why I don't understand any hate about this update, its either a benefit to you or doesn't affect you (besides maybe friends leaving).

EDIT: My only concern at this point is with the clan. I know there is clan chat in the 2007 servers, so I am hoping that I can connect to Surreal's chat. If I can, I am pretty sure I will stay in the clan. If not, I will have to think about it, since I will need to log in to the current RS to meet activity reqs and such. At the worst I will become an honoured member, but I will still be as active on the forums as ever and this might force me to go on IRC more for chitchat haha. This is assuming I even switch over of course.

Very interesting. After reading through that list of exclusions from the '07 game compared to now (Thanks @Portus@), I think I'll be hanging around the current game. I couldn't imagine going back to no GE. I'd still vote in favour of this though smile

No. Personally I hope it is only 50k votes so people have to pay 15$ to play a meaningless outdated game. People who live in the past bug the %#^* out of me. Although there is some things in today's RS that bugs me, I would never go back to such an outdated game. If I wanted to, I would buy a playstation 1 and play crash bandicoot for hours.

I suppose I don't really care one way or the other, but it would be neat to see what August 2007 rs looks like in a year or two if they release it and give it regular updates like they do the main game.

But I have to say, I don't fully understand the opposition to this idea. Granted you might not care for it yourself, but why then should it be kept from those who want it? I suppose maybe the big concern is that it will split the community. But ultimately, people are going to play what they want to play. Whether or not this happens, people will play the current rs only for as long as it appeals to them, and then they will move on. It doesn't matter what else is out there. Who here only plays rs?

With all the fuss that's been made from the people who do want an old version of rs, Jagex wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't at least guage peoples' overall interest to see if it might make them some money.

Little surprised how much hate their is for it too...

I mean, I'll look into it and I probably won't make the swap permanently but I'll see how it is and that will be exciting. Even if it only lasts a few weeks it's barely more expensive than a ninety minute film and the enjoyment here lasts a lot longer than that...

It definitely sounds viable without a strain on resources from the way they put it, to me at least. If there's enough interest to independently fund the server then I can't see any reason not to support it.

I like the EoC and I like many of the updates over the last few years. But, I also liked it back then too, and so did everyone else, or they wouldn't have continued playing. It will be interesting to try out. I do think many will be surprised when playing when, in fact, it isn't the same as it was back then but there's also many who won't be, and are just interested in the experience.

Voting yes isn't a "I hate every update, I live in the past, I'm swapping the second I get the chance because I am a cry-baby move" and nor is voting a commitment of exclusivity.

I dunno, I'm a little less sure whether it's going to work out in the long run. A lot of it depends on the voting, which determines how much support the game gets. If the voting does well enough to get content updates it will probably do just fine, but otherwise it's not going to be as appealing to pay extra for a game that has fewer players and isn't being updated.

I can't vote since I'm not a member anymore, but I'm kind of hoping it gets the 750k. It would be pretty cool to see how it looks in a year or two under the old combat system but with updates the players get to vote for, which means better quality and more popular updates with less dead content.

Wait Dave, there are going to be updates on this new server? I was under the impression that the dedicated team was only for fixings bugs, stopping bots/rule-breaking and community aspects.

I'm under the impression that they would only do essential game updates like those bug fixes/bot nuke, but also in my mind I could see them bringing in the GE... maybe even an update like changing unid herbs to grimy herbs.... stuff like that.
